The Conflict Begins

November 30th, 2007 by flash

Summary:  Robert J. Rutkawski an editor of the American Daily wrote, “The Conflict Begins.”  He talks about how we deployed to free the people of
Iraq and the how there are minions of the anti-war who don’t want to support our troops. They cause disturbance in the streets.  He does state that, “It was Saddam who diverted billion of
Iraq oil wealth into his own pockets, while nearly 60% of his populations are dependent on international food aid.  Nobody wants war and nobody wanted September 11th to happen either.  If we didn’t go to war, Saddam would have won, Not the
U.S.

Commentary:  I completely agree with the author, we have all these critics against the war and they just want to cause trouble.  We have our soldiers that go fight for the freedom so they can go against what there doing for them and let them cause all this trouble.  Why do we have to oppose everything when we are trying to do good?  What would happen to our freedom of speech, assembly, and all of our freedoms and amendments if our soldiers didn’t fight for our freedom? Freedom isn’t free.

Analysis:  As is stated before, Rutkowski is an editor for the American Daily, which is his ethos.  An example of his logos is 60% of Saddams population is dependent on international food.  He appeals on pathos by showing his anger toward the anti-war people.

Road Home

November 9th, 2007 by flash

Summary: In the New York Times, the editor stated that, “It is time for the United States to leave Iraq, without any more delay than the Pentagon needs to organize and orderly exit.” He or She believes that Bush is just staying on the course he has been on and will dump his mess on his successor. The more troops sent over to Baghdad have failed to change anything and need to get a withdrawal plan ready. Editor believes it will be a formidable challenge to execute withdrawal safely, and will have to be done by air lift and sea lift. He or She said,” One of Mr. Bush’s arguments against withdrawal is that it would lead to a civil war.”

Commentary: I do agree with some of the editors reasons for withdrawal, such as President Bush going to war with Iraq without a “sufficient cause, in the face of global opposition, and without a plan to stabilize the country afterward.” He or she also talked about withdrawing would be a formidable challenge, and it would be because we would have to get all of our troops into a safe zone then air or sea lift them out, protecting the way out. What I don’t like what the editor is saying is that we just need to leave immediately. We are going to have to do it over a period of time and not just immediately. We need to finish what we started and not just leave, possible causing a civil war. First step to all this is stabilizing the government.

Analysis: The editor is part of New York Times, which helps him or her establish there ethos. They show Logos by stating that we have 160,000 troops in Iraq and millions of tons of military gear inside Iraq. There whole first Heading the Road Home is all based on his opinions and emotions which show his pathos.
